I’m really not a candidate for an Aperol Spritz, if we’re at party and kind-hearted friends offer me an Aperol Spritz… I usually decline.
I’m a bit of a purist.. I really like wine.
I’ve studied the WSET level III (Sommelier level) which encompasses almost every region of the world of wine and I’ve found I just really like the pure, evocative flavours of wine and will opt for a sensational glass of Australian sparkling wine, a Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer etc.

Chandon Garden Spritz Sparkling Wine Bottle with Glasses

What is the ‘Chandon Garden Spritz’?

I surprised even myself recently, popping into the bottle shop; the temperature outside being 32 degrees; and found myself reaching toward the vibrant orange ribbon adorning the bottle of Chandon Garden Spritz featuring orange bitters 🍊…
The serving method suggested a large glass filled with ICE plus a slice of orange – fresh or dried (I was hooked!)

The wine is a single fermentation sparkling wine by Chandon Estates in the Yarra Valley in Victoria
It’s bottled in the ‘Charmat Method’, meaning as the second fermentation commences in the tank, the production line adds a  little extra CO2…(just like Prosecco) which also equates to slightly lower alcohol content… this is another ‘plus’ on a hot summer’s day!

Perfection

I’m sure my dinner guests will find this as refreshing as I do right this minute!  I chose the bottle (approx. $25 at time of writing at Dan Murphy’s) and dashed home to share with friends before dinner.

I am delighted to advise; the taste sensation is perfectly refreshing, the orange bitters (as well as orange peel and select herbs & spices) adds a subtle savoury note to balance the sweetness
It is effortlessly delicious, refreshingly easy to prepare and not as cloying as a spirit/champagne cocktail combination can be.  it’s more indulgent than a straight ‘wine and soda-spritz’ (of my parents’ era).

So, for those of you looking for a refreshing up-scale to a wine and soda spritz, (and not really excited by mixing specific measures of Aperol/Prosecco and or liquors) take my recommendation and choose the perfectly balanced, deliciously savoury yet indulgent experience of the new Chandon Garden Spritz.
